Mr. Sterling turns TWO

Happy Birthday, little guy!

This is family number two for the month of June that added a new baby to their family within days of our session.

We had Sterling’s two year session on a Friday evening & Scarlett was born that following Monday!

So glad we were able to get one last session in before Miss Scarlett joined the family.

It has been such a pleasure to watch Sterling grow into such a handsome young toddler & now a Big Brother!

I love working with families every year & have really enjoyed working with Sarah & Matt over the last three years!

Brett & Jen | Married | Chicago Wedding Photographer

Cute as a button. That is what comes to mind when I think of Jen & Brett.

They were absolutely fantastic to work, laid back, fun & most of all, super super in love.

We traveled down to Chicago last year to shoot their E-session & learned all about their love of cupcakes.

J & B have such an adorable proposal story. He proposed to her after the end of a race in St. Louis {with the help of his Best Man}

Both J & B are big runners, so it was perfect for them.

After being separated because of jobs off & on the past few years, I’m so happy for them that they are able to start theirr married life together, down in Texas! Wishing you nothing but the best!

Thank-you for having Michelle & I apart of your day, it was beautiful

While we were shooting @ Jen’s parents home we happen to notice the napkin from her parents wedding 25 years ago sitting in their dining room & we had to steal it away for a few minutes to grab this shot.

I loved how close these two were.

Jen was getting married one week & the following week her younger sister was going to her Senior Prom & graduating a few weeks after that. You could tell that they couldn’t be any more happier for one another.

Brett likes the Cubs & thought hey, this guy should be in a picture with us. He was kind enough to agree.

Right before this shot, I told everyone to give me their very best “psycho” face.

One of the groomsmen looked @ Brett and said, “Is she serious”

Brett knowing me quite well already from our e-session replied with “Oh yes she is very serious”.

Ha, love it.

This is one of my favorite images from their reception. When the doors opened & everyone stood up & clapped & yelled as they entered their reception, the looks on J & B’s faces was just fabulous. You could just practically feel the love & excitement!

It was a wonderful moment.

Many times as portrait/wedding photographers, we get caught up with capturing that perfect shot, getting that perfect image for our clients. And while that is very rewarding & inspiring often we as photographers rarely take an opportunity to shoot for ourselves, even if for just a few moments.

I decided to take a few hours on Friday & do just that. Shoot for myself.

I love people. I love relationships & I love love love documenting that.

I wanted to go to Madison & show my support.

My intentions here are merely to show what I saw, the events, the people & emotions that were on the Capitol steps yesterday.

I’m not looking to debate the issue, just documenting a little bit of history.

I wanted to photograph the events, as I saw them unfold.

No matter what side of the fence you are on politically, it didn’t seem to matter.

I saw Republicans, Democrats, children, grandmothers, parents, students, People.

People who were there together, united for one cause & respectfully protesting.

It was a peaceful event, a community standing up for what they believed was right.

Amazing gestures of support.

Signs of respect & love.

Inspirational beyond words.

Something I am very grateful to be able to have witnessed & documented.

The only image you’ll see in color is the first one. I decided as I was reviewing the 500+ images I took in just a couple short hours that & I felt it was important to document these images in black & white to show the moment, the emotion, the feeling of this historical event.

{as I came out of the doors of the Capitol, I saw this man standing up on a platform with this flag & the sun perfectly behind it. I immediately knelt down, pointed my camera to the sky & I just knew it would be one of my favorite captures of the day. I got goosebumps when I saw it.}

Saw this etched in the doorknob : Forward.

I love meeting new & fun couples like Jessie & Jon. Just super cute, fun & up for anything!

We traveled around Janesville to a variety of locations & ended up @ the very famous Frosty Freeze which J & J go to quite often for Ice Cream. It was very fitting for them!

Thanks for the fun evening & I hope you guys enjoyed the remainder of your vacation!

Little guy Grayson {Janesville Newborn Portrait Photography}

So this little guy comes with quite the story. I was originally hired to photograph his birth. Mom was preparing for a home/water birth. Her EDD was New Years Eve of ‘09 and we were waiting patiently for him to arrive. Grayson Lennox, though had a different plan. He surely was born @ home, but momma’s whole labor & birth was only 20 minutes, no time for any photo sessions.

10 days after he was born he came to my studio for his newborn session with his big brother, beautiful mommy & his daddy who made it home for his birth from Afganistan.

It was a pleasure meeting you mr. G the rockstar.
